WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?

Just as hospitals and schools can be accredited, public health departments can be accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). PHAB has developed a set of standards that assess the functioning of health departments based on the 10 Essential Public Health Services, which define public health and serve as the foundation for quality and performance improvement efforts nationwide. As of March 17, 2020, a total of 291 state and local health departments have been accredited. Accredited health departments must demonstrate that they assure the delivery of the 10 Essential Public Health Services.

BENEFITS OF ACCREDITATION

  • Shows that the Health Department is providing the quality of services the public wants and needs
  • Provides a framework for setting priorities
  • Provides valuable, measurable feedback on strengths and areas for improvement

The Magoffin County Health Department is currently working towards accreditation and in the process has strengthened its commitment to improving the quality of life for the Magoffin County community.

COMMUNITY HEALTH ASSESSMENT & COMMUNITY HEALTH IMPROVEMENT PLAN

We would like to thank you, as a community partner, for all your dedication, support and input that made these two documents, which are required for PHAB accreditation, a reality. Without the community’s input we would not have been able to accomplish this assessment of Magoffin County. Below you will find PDF versions of the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). Hard copies of both documents will be available at the health department’s main location in Pikeville. We welcome your feedback and questions on both documents. Thank you!
